Lawrence G. Raisz, M.D.
Dr. Raisz is one of the preeminent experts in the management
of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease in the world today.
Dr. Raisz was one of the founders of the American Society for
Bone and Mineral Research, its second president and the founding
editor of its journal, the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.
He was scientific editor of the Surgeon General’s Report on Bone
Health and Osteoporosis.
At the University of Connecticut, he was
the first program director of the Lowell P. Weicker, Jr.,
General Clinical Research Center and director of the
Musculoskeletal Institute. He has been director of the Center for Osteoporosis since its inception in 1990.
At the NIH,
he has served on study sections and was chair of the General
Medicine B Study Section. Currently he is a member of the
advisory council for the National Institutes of Arthritis,
Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. He is a member of the Board
of Trustees of the National Osteoporosis Foundation.
He serves
on the editorial boards of 11 journals. He is the author of over
450 publications largely in the field of osteoporosis and
metabolic bone disease and co-editor of the major text,
“Principles of Clinical Research."
